Not sure when contest season begins or ends; you can always find a contest
on any given weekend. This weekend it's the North American QSO Party (SSB
only). We are actually a "contest club" among other things. Take a look
on page 73 of the September 2022 issue of QST and you'll see us listed
under the affiliated club competition as a local club with 4 entries in the
last ARRL International DX Phone Contest. A "local" club means all the
participating members need to be within a 35 mile radius of the club's
Maidenhead grid square - ours is FM18kt. When you submit your
cabrillo-formatted log to the ARRL for one of its sponsored contests you
need to indicate "Alexandria Radio Club" (not W4HFH) in the club field -
logging software will prompt you for this. You also need to be on "the
list" at
http://contest-clubs.arrl.org/viewlists.php?action=clublist&clubabbrev=ALEXRC.
So even if you're a casual contestor - and most of us are - if you ever
think you might like to submit a score, send me your callsign and 6-digit
Maidenhead grid locator, and I'll update our list. If you don't know your
grid, and all hams should, go to https://dxcluster.ha8tks.hu/hamgeocoding/
and enter your address in the "locality" field. See you in the next
contest!
73, Ian N8IK
