Subject: [Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] FIELD DAY PLANNING
ALL,
In order to make field day a successful for all members, I would like to get inputs and support from as many club members as possible.
MEETING will be set up by DON on ZOOM and he will send out the invite.
GOALS
We have a club of around 100 members, many of whom do not operates HF due to physical constraints. - We need to set up our six (5 HF 1
VHF) so that ALL can get some operating time
IDEAS
1 - Set up a schedule where two at a time are operating each radio station.
Mode of operation is up to the operator (SSB, Digital, CW). The operator hands over the station after his time is up. If the replacement operator is not on site, then anyone who has not operated can step in for 2 hours. (2 hour shifts, one to operate and one to log with the two swapping jobs at one
hour) We are open to ANY other ideas
2 - Logging - We will use the FJP logging software and each band will use a THUMB DRIVE for logging. If you bring a computer for logging, MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE PASSWORD where the operators can find it!
3 - FOOD - Wilson KM4KLK has volunteered to be the FOOD chair this year. We will try to keep the food simple so that he is not overwhelmed. He could use some help. We will ask that all who stay for meals contribute $10 to the cost.
4 - We gave several CLUB radios, a club 2KW Honda Generator. Oher members are encouraged to bring generators and extension cables.
5 - LOCATION - Armistead Booth Park off of Picket Street and Edsell rd in Alexandria.
6 - BAND CAPTAINS. Many of our members have little
experience with HF radios, so Each HF station needs an Extra Class amateur to manage the station, teach the newer ops how to use the gear, make sure each station is fully equipped and set up and work with the operating schedule. This does not mean that the band captain operates for all of field day, but that someone is available to help all of the operators.
7 - Estra points mean A LOT. We need to have a SAFETY person, PUBLIC RELATIONS person, An operator or two to collect the ARRL message, A WINLINK station to send the SEC a report. and address all of the other points we can make.
All of these are just my thoughts at this point the only things set in STONE
are location, and ARRL FIELD DAY RULES. SO, think about how WE want to
accomplish Field Day. And PLEASE attend the Friday meeting.
