[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] Fox Hunting?

A fox would be an easy project.

Our club in Roanoke was very proficient at foxhunting. We had a fox built into a surplus ammo can that ran 1 watt to an external antenna. The battery pack was built in. It would transmit continuously with an ID every 3 minutes. Back then, we used 146.520 because most radios were crystal controlled. Now, we could use another 2 meter or even a 70 cm frequency. This is very similar to tracking an ELT.

Google the Roanoke Doppler. Lojack works on the same principle. The guys in Roanoke did it first.

Another variation is to have the fox transmit on a schedule for a minute or two and then stop.

First person to find the fox wins and gets to be the hidden transmitter the next time. We could limit the search area to the City of Alexandria.

I am up for it.
