There have been rumors recently that microprocessors are in short supply and is affecting the price and availability of radios. There was even a segment on 60 minutes a few weeks ago talking about the world wide shortage of semiconductors.

 

This rumor is true! This is affecting the radio market in that the cost to manufacture the radios are increasing and there might be shortages because they cannot manufacture them without these parts.

 

We deal with four different manufactures. Two of them have increased our cost by about $20 per radio. I have not checked with the other two because I have enough stock of their radios to last awhile longer.

 

One of the manufactures told me he has to pay $20 for a microprocessor that a little while ago cost him $3. The other manufacturer just raised our prices for handhelds at $15 per radio. I did not ask that manufacturer how much his cost increased.

 

The lead time for some of these radios have been extended. We normally could get a small shipments of the CS800D shipped in the week we gave the order. Now the manufacturer is telling us he hopes to get us more radios in about a month. Last time he said he hoped to ship us products in a month it took two months to get more inventory. 

 

We will continue to sell our radios at the same price until we have to pay more for new stock and at that time you can expect the prices to increase.
