Many of us have D-Star capable radios but have problems with working with reflectors.  Years ago if you wanted to talk to a station somewhere beyond line of sight you set up RPT1 as the local d-star repeater with an internet gateway and RPT2 as the destination repeater / gateway.  Now D-star has Reflectors very much like DMR talk groups.  If you program your D-Star radio using the RT Systems software, there is a D-Star calculator.  It has a world wide database so you put in the state and city and you get a choice of the repeaters in the area. After you select the repeater you can select from a list of reflectors..  Each repeater function and reflector takes up a channel.  To link to a reflector, go to the w4???   U and key up.  This unlink the gateway.  Then W4??? Ref??? L. AMD KEY.  You will hear that the reflector.   A recent example was connecting to the 62C reflector using the 145.34 repeater (NVFMA) to talk to Lane K4FSQ on Guam.  Nice conversation for 20 minutes.  HF would have been nice but it was good to catch up with one of our out of the area club members.73 Rick
