We are looking for a club member that has SATCOM equipment capabilities and would volunteer to take on a project for Children’s National Hospital. The Hospital has reached out to Alexandria Radio Club for amateur radio support to communicate with the ISS under the ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) program. The ARISS program was created and is managed by an international consortium of amateur radio organizations and space agencies including National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the USA, Rosaviakosmos in Russia, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in Canada, Japan Aeronautics Exploration Space Agency (JAXA) in Japan and European Space Agency (ESA) in Europe. ARISS inspires students, worldwide, to pursue interests and careers in science, technology, engineering and math while communicating via amateur radio with the International Space Station (ISS) on-orbit crew. The ARISS Program is seeking proposals from formal and informal education institutions and organizations, individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew member on board the ISS.

In the most likely scenario a volunteer would need to setup their ham SATCOM station in the hospital and remotely operate it via the Internet during communications with the ISS. The attachments show an example of how the Williamson County Amateur Radio Service in Nashville, TN are supporting Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Please send me a note if you are willing to take the club lead on this project. The deadline is next week so we need to respond without delay to Children’s National Hospital. Thanks for your cooperation.
