Calling all Amateurs! 

 

The Northern Virginia FM Association is inviting you to our virtual general
membership meeting via Zoom on Thursday June 18th at 1930 hrs.  All amateurs
are invited and encouraged to attend.  

 

Our featured presentation will be on Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) by Ben Mills
N4CV.  

 

Summary:  DMR is an open digital mobile radio standard defined and used in
commercial products around the world. It continues to grow in popularity in
the amateur radio world because of the access to inexpensive radios and the
fun things you can do with them through repeaters and hot spots, talking
around the world.  But easy accessibility does not mean easy to operate and
program, and making a mistake doesn't just impact the local repeater but can
impact repeaters and hot spots around the globe.   Ben's presentation will
include: 

 

*	Provide an overview on DMR, how it works, and how to use it.
*	Some of the pitfalls to watch out for
*	A basic overview of some of the radio options
*	DMR Repeaters in the NOVA area you can use

 

In addition to Ben's presentation we will have updates on the NVFMA
repeaters, a possible WINLINK project and will be looking for interest and
input to adding WIRES-X to the 91 repeater.  You don't want to miss this
informative session!
