Alexandria Radio Club is inviting you to a scheduled Monthly Club meeting
via Zoom.
Featured Topic: Ed's Twinlead Antennas, Dr. Ed Fong (WB6IQN)
Time: Aug 14, 2020 07:00 PM Eastern Time
Featured Presentation: Our guest speaker for this meeting will be Dr. Ed
Fong (WB6IQN). He is the inventor of the DBJ-1, DBJ-2, and TBJ-1 antennas
that were featured in the February 2003, March 2007 and March 2017 QST.
Ed's antennas are also featured in the ARRL VHF antenna Handbook as well as
the ARRL Antenna Compendium. Ed made a Skype presentation to ARC in 2016 on
his dual band J-pole antennas. Afterwards, many club members purchased those
antennas at that time, and have been happy with their performances. This
time Ed will discuss the theory and background behind the TBJ-1. The TBJ-1
is a triband base antenna, which includes the 1.25m band. There are over
25,000 of Ed's antennas in use today. More details on Ed's antennas may be
found at: https://edsantennas.weebly.com/. About half are used by hams and
the other half by government and commercial agencies.
Ed Fong was first licensed in 1968 as WN6IQN. He later upgraded to Extra
Class with his present call of WB6IQN. He obtained the BSEE and MSEE
degrees from the Univ. of California at Berkeley and his Ph.D. from the
Univ. of San Francisco. A Senior Member of the IEEE, he has 12 patents and
over 40 published papers and books in the area of communications and
integrated circuit design. Presently, he is employed by the University of
California at Santa Cruz - Silicon Valley as an instructor teaching graduate
classes in RF design and High Speed CMOS I/O circuits. In his 35 year
career, he has done work for Stanford University, National Semiconductor,
Advanced Micro Devices, and numerous startup companies in the Silicon
Valley.
