[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] No Strong Opposition to 144 – 146 MHz Reallocation Proposal at CEPT Meeting

As I understand it, France wants to give 144 - 146 MHz to the Aeronautical Mobile service for a commercial entity to do something with. Sounds like the UPS debacle some years ago where we lost 220 to 222 MHz because UPS wanted to create a nationwide radio system for their trucks with a technology that had not been fully developed. One manufacturer started advertising equipment in the 2 way trade magazines before the technology had been approved for use in the US. FCC told them to "cease and desist" with the advertising.

>From everything I have been reading, 2 meters is not as popular in Europe as it is here in the US and North America. Bottom line, we need to make use of our frequencies so the commercial users will go elsewhere.

I am very surprised at this because the Amateur Satellite Service is PRIMARY in the 144 to 146 MHz spectrum and European amateurs only have 144 to 146 for their 2 meter band. This will effectively kill 2 meters in Europe.

The part I find amazing is there was very little objection to the proposal. Whose palms are getting greased?
