At the monthly meeting last night a couple of items were mentioned that drew
some interest. I am posting links below for those who may want more
information.
The first item was www.websdr.org. This site offers a selection of radio
receiver sites around the world, most receiving on HF bands and a few
receiving on VHF/UHF. Each site offers many listeners via the internet to
listen and tune it simultaneously. SDR technology makes it possible for all
listeners to independently tune and thus listen to different signals via the
internet. I can recalled having listened to international shortwave
broadcasts via websdr.org as if I were living in Europe. Someone mentioned
last night that a person could in theory broadcast from here and listen for
their signal in another state via websdr.org, which is an interesting idea.
The other item discussed was a new technology item, RasPad
<https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/35410622/raspad-raspberry-pi-tablet-fo
r-your-creative-proje> , a Raspberry Pi Tablet with a 10 in screen. It is a
project that has been crowd-funded, which some have expressed cautions
about. See also
