This is a short note to all in the club and to those who have volunteered
for ARES. The first item to think about is yourself! Make sure you are
prepared for whatever this storm has to offer. Ask yourself; What if, power
goes out, what if you cannot get out of the house for a few days, what if
.. Most of us do not have a generator that can support the whole house, but
if you have gas a small generator can keep the fans running. Flash lights,
blankets, etc.
Be safe. Be ware of gas or propane heaters, electric heaters near flammable
items, generator exhaust. For some of us who are not in great shape,
watch the exertion when you pushing snow.
As for ARES support, keep an ear on the 147.315 repeater. If we get a call
that is the first place you will hear about it. Have your go kits ready.
Charge batteries, keep your equipment collected and ready.
As we have not had a dedicated ARES meeting in while, please let me know if
you have completed IS100, IS200 and/or IS700, have you in the last 5 years
submitted a background check form? Next meeting I will pass out NEW ARES
forms and we will update our volunteer roster. If Harry has not yet taken
your picture, we will try to get pictures taken at the next meeting. We
will start issuing ALEXANDRIA ARES BADGES in the near future with pictures,
names, call signs and ARES and CITY logos, so that if we are asked to
support an emergency we will have ID.
Be Safe
