Good morning Rick,
Will you have room for a walk-in to take the General exam on December 6th? If so, what time will you be administering the test?
On another topic – I’ve been experiencing RF interference from Dominion Power equipment for several months. I filed a complaint back in September but, despite several follow-ups on my part, the issue has not been resolved. Is there anyone in the club that has contacts at Dominion that may be able to help with the situation?
Thanks in advance.
73,
Dennis Albrecht

ELMERS CORNER
In getting ready for the Marine Corps Marathon, I found out that, no matter how organized you think you are, there are always NEW things to find. Very much like field day. The list for an aid station includes: 1.2 GHz D-Star, 2/440 D-Star, 2-meter packet (9600) and (optional) 6 meter APRS. Next on the list is antennas and supports. Than power and distribution. The aid station is supposed to have a generator, but I will take a new 80AHr batter and a small AC inverter for the computers. Oh, yes, two computers, had one fail about 10 years ago and now take a spare. At this point I had all the station stuff, but you still need to think about “office” stuff, A note book with all the operations stuff that was sent out, a few manual pages for the radios, two chairs, a card table. Funny how it all adds up.
Of course, MURPHY does live!! I took a backup computer and in the process of unloading the truck in the dark, I ran over it. Tech refresh at N4ASX. Good thing it was the backup computer. One of my leads to one of the four radios popped a fuse and again, no spares. Another thing to add to the list for next year.
SEPTEMBER MEETING MINUTES.
Jack, KE7VOU gave us a program and demo on JT65. N4ASX will set up the OTHER station so we can make a connection on JT65 so Jack can show us what makes JT65 a good mode. In addition a short introduction to HF radio to sound card interface was discussed. Two interfaces make it easy. The Tigertronics Signalink USB and The RigBlaster family of interfaces. Unlike Packet or APRS you don’t need a TNC but you can either use the sound card in your computer or an external device with a sound card included.
Hamfests –
The next hamfest in our area is the SantaFest in Cheltenham, MD on December 10, 2016. It’s sponsored by the American Legion and Prince George’s County Emergency Repeater Association. The location is the American Legion Youth Camp, 9201 Surratts Road in Cheltenham, MD. Talk-in will be on the 145.230 MHz repeater (PL 110.9 Hz).
It’s not too early to start thinking about the Maryland Mobileers Post Holiday Hamfest on January 29, 2017. The location is Odenton Fire Hall on Route 175 in Odenton. Talk-in will be on the 146.805 MHz repeater (PL 107.2 Hz).

Our current class is winding down, with just 4 classes left. The last class on December 6, 2016 is also the exam. If you want to upgrade your license, let me know and we will make sure there is room for you. The next class should be starting in early March 2017.

MARINE CORPS MARATHON
A fair number of our members participated in this year’s Marine Corps Marathon. The race went very well with most patients presenting with minor problems. Due to the staggered start the race seamed to go a little longer, but I was at a little different place this year and for the first time John and I got to see the runners go by. Thanks to the leadership team for their organization of a very complex and very public service activity.

Monday Night Burgers – There is a group that gets together at 6:15 PM on Mondays at a local burger joint. Mark up on the 147.315 repeater and join them for the fun. Mark up on the repeater about 6PM and join the group. The location does change! IF you have a good spot, you might make a suggestion.
