I've got this antenna, I use it with dump1190, RTL-SDR, ShipPlotter and flightradar24. There is an aggregator at flightradar24.com it works a lot like aprs.fi.
I would have thought that the ferries on the Potomac would require AIS (anything over 300 tons OR common carrier) but they don't. But Coast Guard helicopters usually leave their AIS on while they fly even over land. When I go to Baltimore Inner Harbor I get great AIS with this antenna.

For me I had a lot of make-dependencies issues with RTL-SDR on my Mac, but on my ubuntu it was just a few apt-get commands.

ShipSpotting.com is a fun AIS aggregator, it has a ship database, so you can see pictures of the ships.

Don't forget, if you take a flight and you see something cool on the ground and wonder what it is, you can get a Google Earth KML of your flight track at flightaware.com. It is an ACARS/ADS-B aggregator.
