Despite all of our best intentions to proceed with the Parade, our constituency is voting with their feet. We have had many marching units of long standing make the decision not to participate. Groups like TC Williams High School, Fishburne Military School, the Marine Corps Band from Quantico; not to mention many scout units and youth groups have recently let me know that, with regret, they are withdrawing from the Parade. Given the extreme weather that we have had in our area in the past few days, we really cannot criticize anyone for making this decision. With all of this I feel that the Parade will not be what it should be and even though we could hold it, we probably should cancel it and save the resources that it takes to stage this important event. Please reach out to your own groups and let them know that this is happening.
