TMARC has touched on a good point. It is very easy to set up the cross band
repeat function on current radios. It is more difficult to do it legally.
1. Do you have a control frequency that will not interfere with other
stations? Are you on frequencies that need to be co-ordinated by TMARC?
2. How will that radio legally ID itself.
3. You have setup a remote station. How familiar are you with how remote
stations are regulated in Part 97?
4. How quickly can you shut everything done if something happens to your
control frequency? The last time I checked, the cross band repeater had to
be shut down within three minutes if there is loss of control.
Cross band repeat looks good on paper. Legally setting it up takes more
thinking that many hams realize.

Subject: [Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] Cross band repeat function
TMARC asked that we share the following with our club members concerning
cross band repeat operations:
The cross-band repeat functionality in many of the VHF/UHF amateur radios
these days can provide a useful function in a number of scenarios. However,
a number of cross-band repeaters have shown up using un-authorized repeater
input, un-authorized repeater output, or the national simplex calling
frequencies (52.525, 146.520, 223.50, 446.000, etc.) This practice
interferes with repeater operation and mis-uses the simplex frequencies.
Also, please remember that proper station identification is required per FCC
Part 97.119.
