All,
We need at LEAST 10 volunteers to support the parade again
this year. If you get this multiple times I apologize. If your not a member
of the Alexandria Radio Club, Please forward this to members of your club.
Attached are two graphics showing the parade route and the
parade form up and start finish area.
Parking down town is limited so we will meet to car pool at
9:30 at the Alexandria Fire Training Center (Nanny J Lee Center). The Fire
Training Center is around the back of the Nanny J Lee Center at the foot of
S. Fayette St just north of the beltway and just west of US 1. We will then
head for the Parade HQ at Gibbon and South Royal. Ian N8IK and Jack K5OTZ
will go directly to the reviewing stand and should have parking as they have
in the past to set up the D-Star link. Rick KA4GFY and Rick N4ASX will be
at the trailer on Gibbon between S. Royal and S Fairfax Streets.
Other will be assigned to Division Marshalls at the Parade
HQ. I have asked for some parking spaces at Lyles Crouch School but that
place fills up fast, so we need to get there by 10:30 Depending on the
number of volunteers we will either assign to Divisions or locate at
intersections where divisions enter the parade.
I will have the SAME list of units that are given to the
parade marshals this year. What we are going to do is get the change at
12:30 to 12:45 from the DIVISION MARSHALS (ONLY) and then get them to the
trailer so that we can make changes and send them to the reviewing stand
before the units get there!
If you want you can go to the American Legion hall after
0830 and they will be happy to get you some coffee. If you do go directly
to the parade area, PLEASE let me know you plan to do that so we don't miss
you.
In the past we have used the 146.655 repeater. If the Mt.
Vernon Club agrees we will use this repeater again this year. This will
allow us to use our handhelds on low power to save batteries. I also
recommend an ear phone as the parade can be very noisy.
Time Line
0930 - Meet at Nanny J Lee Center / Fire Training Center to car pool to the
parade area.
0945 - Depart for Parade Route form up area.
1000 - City police close down the area and enforce closure of the parade
route and form up areas and at that point it will become difficult to park
near the parade route.
1100 - Meet at Parade HQ - Briefing for Marhals and Radio Operators.
1130 - Unit check ins begin.
1200 - 1230 Parade Marshals put the units in order. At this point you may
have traffic to help units get where they need to go. Your list will have
two numbers for each unit. One is the Division number and the other is for
where they are in the order of march. The TWO are not related.
1245 - Collect any changes to the UNITS. DROPS (no shows), ADDS (last
minute units that are not on the list) and any changes.
If a unit drops all you need to do is WRITE DROP next to that unit on your
list. If it is an ADD, and they are located behind unit X that new unit
becomes X A. example new girl scout troop 123 shows up and locates behind
Girl Scout Troop 456 and they are at Div 3 unit 12. The new unit will be
Div 3 unit 12A.
1300 (1PM) Parade Start. - If you don't have all your changes you can get
them to us as soon as the Division starts to join the parade, but remember
we need to have the file updated and sent before the first units get to the
reviewing stand, so that Ian and Jack can take the changes to the parade
reviewing stand.
1500 Parade should be over. We can meet at the Trailer and then leave when
the roads are opened.
1400 FUDD RUCKERS on Duke Street.
Your welcome to go with the parade marshals along the route if you want to.
Assignments
Most will be assigned to parade marshals with each Division or groups of
Divisions as we have volunteers, but I will need a few to shadow the parade
managers and the EMS/Police liaison so that we can get help in the event of
an emergency.
Whether you call in your changes or bring them to the Trailer, PLEASE make
your notes COMPLETE and legible. The trailer is like an ice box and it's
hard to decode scribble or to understand some notes. Once you turn in your
list there should be NO changes.
Thank you all for volunteering. This is one of a few events each year where
the city really sees us support them.
If you have any questions you can e-mail me or call me
