Club Membership Project
Several of the club members have expressed a need for antennas that
provide some gain to be used on hand-helds (2mtr) for accessing the repeater for
nets, etc..
One antenna that works well and is easy to build is the J-Pole made from a
¾ wave piece of TV Twin lead, connected to a length of 50ohm coax. We
thought this might be a good time to teach some soldering and construction
techniques.
The question that has delayed getting this off the ground is if we have
the individuals solder their own antennas, where can we do this. The meeting
room would not be a desirable place for the smells and potential damage
done to the tables/floor. So an alternative that looks promising is to do
this at the Fall Newbees on the air session. This will be in a park and no
problem with smells, burning holes in tables, etc.
Before we move further on this, I would like to get a head count on how
many antenna we may want to make. So, please give me a reply for who wants
to try making an antenna. We can cut them for whatever band(s) you want to
try.
