Greetings from Florida. The article in Arc Shorts regarding emergency
preparedness prompted me to respond. Here in Florida we are always concerned
about hurricane damage. I planned a backup generator as part of my
retirement home. I also have a supply of dried food. 

In the event of a long term emergency where grocery stores could not be
resupplied, the shelves would be empty in 4 days. I would imagine that the
pickings would be slim on the last 2-3 of those days. I have put URL's to a
couple of dried food suppliers below, that have special emergency packages
in a back pack ready to pick up and go. For the cost of shipping and
handling ($9.95,) E-Foods will send you a sample of their product. I ordered
one before committing to a larger order. The food is surprisingly good
tasting. Another option is MRE's. Ask N4ASX what MRE stands for if you don't
already know. The club might consider stocking the trailer with some
supplies like this. For those that worked the aftermath of 9/11, food was
not a problem with all the canteens that were set up, but the next emergency
might not be so cushy for the operators.
