A few things you and Alex. ARC might be interested in:
June 12, 2011 Manassas Hamfest, Prince William Fairground. See www.W4OVH.NET
Also that same weekend Saturday and Sunday in the MS 150 Bike tour through
the countryside. Bo Pierce N4VEC needs help. Jan and I will probably help
for a while on Saturday.
Below is email from him.
Last thing - Manassas will be celebrating the 150 year anniversary of the
First Battle of Manassas July 21 thru July 24 ARES will be active (as well
as any other Hams). David KG4GIY will be needing something like 25 -35 Hams
each day to cover 5 or 6 sites (not final yet maybe more) aid stations, etc.
I reminded him to send more info to you so expect something from him soon.
See at the Hamfest.
Steve N4OGR Bo's email to follow.....

Hi:
Below is a link that somewhat describes the Multiple Sclerosis Bike Ride
this year. These rides (along with various Walks and other fund raising
activities) are held throughout the US - and raise funds for research to
develop a cure for MS.

A number of you have probably worked this event in the past - but I have
expanded my potential volunteer list significantly this year - so for new
members on the list - here is a brief description:
The ride takes place in what used to be "Rural Virginia" - mostly around
the town of Middleburg. On Saturday (6/11), we need Hams to provide
communications at Rest Stops. Also, we need a number of Hams with vehicles
that can carry those riders (and their bicycles) that were overly optimistic
about how far they can ride their bicycles - or who have had breakdowns.
These Hams are referred to as SAGS and drive around the ride route - looking
for bicycle riders who have had problems. There are also members of a
Goldwing Motorcycle Riders Club who patrol the route - and pass on problems
to SAGS.
I know gasoline is an issue for many of us - considering current prices.
Over the past couple of years, MS has provided busses at strategic locations
to assist in transporting tired riders - so the amount of driving by SAGS
has been reduced. I used about 13 gallons last year - driving a rather long
Ford F-150. This should give you an idea of fuel costs.
I hope you will consider helping with this event. I don't want to annoy
anyone - so if you would rather not be contacted in the future about this
event - just let me know by return email and I will take you off the list.
Thanks in advance for considering helping with this event..
