CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS--MARINE CORPS MARATHON 2011
SIGN-UP LINK AT WWW.NCACDC.COM IS LIVE
How to register, what the process is, and the timeline to Race Day
(18 June 1011, Washington D.C.) This is the call for Amateurs to sign up now
to volunteer for this year's 36th running of the Marine Corps Marathon on 30
October 2011.
For 33 years Amateur Radio supported the Marines and, specifically, the U.S.
Navy Medical commanders, to link their aid stations and to be "eyes and
ears" on the 26.2-mile course.
Because of Amateur Radio's increasing success year-over-year leads to
increased race responsibilities, which requires volunteers be better trained
and better prepared. This year our sign-up goal is more than 130 volunteers.
And to have the time needed for the training and meeting events for this
year's volunteers, it's necessary to achieve more than 130 successful
sign-ups before the end of August.
THE RACE
The National Capital Region is fortunate to host one of the world's elite
marathons. Noon Eastern 23 February runner registration opened. The pile-up
ended 28 hours, 4 minutes later with the race sold out. Again, this year,
the cut-off is 30,000 runners.
The MCM is also an elite public service event: it is a one-of-a-kind
opportunity to practice and learn emergency communications skills. The size
of unified operations--Federal, military, state, and local jurisdictions--is
bigger than most exercises. Volunteering for the MCM gives you emergency
communications practice and training, in a best-practice incident management
environment, on a real event, and more, that you simply can't get anywhere
else.
The MCM offers its volunteers the enjoyment of giving valued and recognized
public service, and it offers the challenge of outstanding emergency
communications practice. Whether it's one or the other or both for you,
you're cordially invited to help.
SIGNING UP
Although MCM race day is 30 October, the size of the event and further
increase of Amateur Radio's roles, require more than 130 volunteer
positions, and require all these positions to be assigned by 31 August.
This time is needed to form teams, identify team leads, and allow the team
leads to prepare and train their teams to fulfill the requirements of the
overall MCM operational plan.
