Hi John,
Glad to help. I have a D700A in both my cars - a great radio. The problem is
most likely your Garmin puck. A Garmin GPS outputs lat/long in two ways,
NMEA-standard sentences (either 1200 baud or 9600 baud) and a
Garmin-proprietary format. The Garmin-proprietary format is the default and
your D700A is clueless - it only knows how to interpret NMEA sentences. So
check with your Garmin software that it is outputting NMEA or NMEA96 and
force that to be the default. Then use menu 3-?? on your D700A to select
NMEA or NMEA96 (gotta match here also). If that doesn't solve the problem
holler and we can get together soon.

Subject: [Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] help wanted: APRS
Hi All,
I have met a couple of you, have chatted on the air with a few more of you -
but regrettable have not made it to a meeting yet (sigh).but no less, would
like to see if anyone would be willing and able to assist me in setting up
APRS in my vehicle. I have done all I know to do, and can't seem to align
the stars just right to get it to work. I would be glad to come to you, or
meet you somewhere.I live near the Huntington Metro.
I have a TM-D700a and a Garmin GPS16 puck. Everything is plugged in and
wired, but something between my GPS settings and the APRS settings on the
D700 aren't right. What I *think* the problem is, is that the GPS is not
configured with the right strings - but for the life of me, I have not been
able to make it work (using the Garmin programming software). I am very much
a newbie with GPS and APRS..
I would really appreciate any assistance, if someone has experience with
this or a similar setup and the time to spare.
Thanks.
John, w5jmc
