All,
I was looking on E-bay and a guy had a Motorola GTX-900 Handheld
radios for bid. He sold one for $75 with charger, used battery and antenna.
He stated in his ad that he had 65 of these radios that he would auction off
over time.
According to the ARRL website this radio can be put in the
Amateur radio 902-928Mhz band by reprogramming (no mods). I sent him a note
asking what his price would be if we purchased 5 to 10 units. He responded
that he would sell a quantity for $70 each shipped. Of course we would need
to have them programmed. My guess is that we could find someone to do that
for a small fee.
If you would like to get one of these radios, let me know and I
will take up a count and make the order.
The Alexandria Radio Club HAS TWO 900Mhz repeaters and they sit
unused. These radios are listed as putting out 3 watts so they would work
well in the city or as talk around where 2 meters and 440 are crowded.
73 Rick
