Rick, et alia,

While indeed the quality of most Motorola products impels one to
reasonably have an expectation of excellence, I'd be very careful to
get a sample of or two of these radios first before imploring everyone
to buy them.

Why? Because they operate using companded audio, and when I have used
them on commercial systems their quality has been far beneath the
level of stellar quality I have always know from Motorola (bearing in
mind these were systems customers paid in the millions to have
designed and deployed by Motorola). Moreover, this apparently (at the
time I had played with them circa 10 years ago) was a known fact, and
was why Motorola was selling far more 800 MHz systems over 900 Mhz
systems, given there was a glut of 900 MHz licenses available on the
commercial bands.

A friend from Motorola actually lent me indefinitely a Motorola 900
MHz radio to use on a repeater he owned, after a month and a half I
gave the radio back and went back to speaking to him on 440 (and he
was not even trying to sell me the 900 MHz radio).

V/R,
