There are three activities coming up that have requested amateur radio support
On March 29th is the National Marathon, which runs through DC and part of Maryland. I have been in touch with Mr. Jack Gunther who is the amateur radio coordinator. The race starts at 7AM so amateur operators will need to be at RFK stadium by 6AM. UNLESS assignments are provided earlier and we can go directly and call in. Im sure they will need both on course and runners village support. Run is over by 1PM.
To sign up to support this effort, go to the National Marathon website and volunteer. www.nationalmarathon.com/
ON April 12th we have the Bull Run Run, Art Pond, KD4FBT is the coordinator for this. The website to learn more is http://www.vhtrc.org/brr/ Start time for the runners is 6:30AM so Im sure Art will want us their earlier.
On May 4th is the Potomac Run Marathon. The course goes from the Bell Haven Marine down to Mt. Vernon (just short of Georges Place) and comes back. To get the 26.2 miles they make the course down and back twice. Again an early start with runners starting at 7AM so we need to be on site by 6 AM. We will provide advanced assignments and times for each assignment so that you can go directly to your operation.
To volunteer for this effort please call Rich Bunn (703)317-9305 or send me an E-mail at <mailto:RRBunn at cox.net> RRBunn at cox.net
Both of the runs these cover a wide area, so mobiles and external antennas would be a plus. The coverage for repeaters along the Potomac is very poor so mast kits, good antennas and mobile radios are desired.
The Bull Run Run is along the Occoquan Reservoir and is also a poor area for VHF. Much of the coverage will be on repeaters but it is again a good idea to have mobile gear and a good antenna.
