[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] WTF? Lighten Up Folks.

Dear James,

Well. So, I'm in this Reflector News. There are a lot of weird, off the
wall, silly, and even cute but otherwise catchy phonetics that help
people remember other people's call signs and are used for just the fun
of them. For example, I have a friend who's call suffix he sometimes
calls Chocolate Fried Potatoes. Hummm. Tasty! I happen to like that one.

As for my own call suffix, nothing comes to me as crude, immoral, or
tasteless about just zipping up a pair of pants. Just a silly attention
getter that sounds strange. Personally, that phonetic representation of
my call KC4ZYP doesn't really bother me, especially if it helps others
remember my call. In a formal net, I admit that was the first time I've
heard Zip Your Pants used for my call. If it helped the lady remember me
to my call, ok the better. Fine. No offense to me. Sort of an odd honor
in a way. It's ok with me. So, with this in mind, if it's ok with me, it
should be ok with you, unless you're a real stiff ass. Besides, since Net
Control [while he was off the air] was a little crumby in the morning, it
was nice that somebody else wasn't taking every thing that day too
seriously and could lighten up. Now that should be a good kind of spirit
for Amateur Radio. So give Deanna a break and leave her alone. With
public service, remember it's just a hobby.
Kilo-Charlie-Four-Zip-Your-Pants has spoken!
