Hi all,
I am sad to report that Alan's call letters are about to be reassigned, probably today, to an unknown person. This person did his own leg work and followed the FCC regs. He provided proof to the FCC that Alan had died on August 12, 2005 and had Alan's license cancelled as of that day. Then he applied for Alan's call letters on November 28th of this year. He will apparently be assigned the letters officially sometime real soon now, today or Monday, according to "Norm" at the ARRL office.
If I had known about the details involved here, or the risk in letting Alan's call letters sit around for two years, I may have taken action earlier to form a club in his name and request his call sign. As it is, I haven't been in the business of taking action on anything, even when it's important, unless there's a deadline. I simply have not had the energy or peace of mind to do differently.
So, my fellow Alan fans, if anyone still has any desire to form a club with the purpose of promoting and teaching morse code, I'd like to hear about it. My visions have included online and in person games and exercises that promote practice of morse code outside the limited scope of contesting. I have many creative ideas, but I can't do it alone.
I am very sad to say that I can't make it to the Christmas party tonight. I got show tickets for a show I've been wanting to see for nearly 2 years. Please pass on my warm wishes to those who are there.
I appreciate you guys and your presence in my life a great deal. Thank you for being the devoted hams and friends that you are. :)
73, Lara KI4PHG
