[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] fundraising walk this saturday for American Diabetes Association

To my dear friends of the Alexandria Radio Club,

As most of you remember, on August 12th last year, we lost our friend,
Elmer, and Code teacher Alan Wormser, N5LF, to a stroke brought on by
diabetes.  Alan was my love and my life, so going on without him has been as
challenging as you can imagine.  However, when Alan was going through his
earlier challenges when his first wife was ill, and when I first moved here
to DC to help Alan’s sister, the Alexandria Radio Club was always full of
caring people ready to help out wherever they could.  So far, I’ve been
blessed with help from you guys more than any other single group of friends
in Alan’s life.  I appreciate your help more than I can say.

In my continuing efforts to heal, this Saturday, November 4th, I will be
walking in the American Diabetes Association’s annual fundraising walk.  I
am doing this as part of my own healing process and in support of fighting
the disease that took my beloved Alan’s life.  I am sending you this note
for a few reasons:

1)	I am asking you to contribute a little something from your philanthropy
budget to the American Diabetes Association in Alan’s honor.  Through this
fundraising walk, I am a courier for your support.  You are supporting me by
choosing to donate through my walk, but you are supporting many thousands of
people who have diabetes or have loved ones with diabetes by donating to the
ADA.
2)	I am asking for people who knew Alan to join me on the walk.  All I need
is some company for about 2-3 hours in the morning this coming Saturday.  So
far, I’m a “team of one” and I’m hoping I won’t end up walking alone.  So,
whether or not you can spare cash to donate, I could sure use some simple
company.  The walk is 3km around the mall downtown starting at around
9:00am.

Deadline for donations is November 11.
