WOO HOO!!!!!!!
I DID IT!!! I PASSED! I'M NOW OFFICIALLY ONE OF US!!!!
Unto the most noble and honorable members of the Alexandria Radio Club does the very happy and relieved Lara Coutinho bring greetings of great joy! Thanks to the magnificent efforts of the club's newbie teachers, I managed to pass the Tech test on Tuesday night therefore realizing a 32 year old dream of mine and becoming a Ham in my own right!
Ever since I was a kid and I sat in the basement with my dad and made cute little silver hearts out of dad's sotter (sp?) as he tried to repair electronics, I've thought it would be fun to play with electronics and talk to people *not* on the phone. Ever since I met Alan, I discovered how intoxicating Morse Code could be and how absolutely attainable a ham licence is to mere mortals who aren't *quite* as obsessed with circuit boards as my dad is. And ever since you guys in this club welcomed me in and showed me genuine support, even without Alan around, I had hope that I could actually do this ham thing myself.
After having so many shattered dreams in the past year, this dream being realized means a hell of a lot to me, and I owe you guys massive mountains of thanks for your Elmer help. This is only the first step on a long journey of mine to Extraclassville, so you will continue to see lots of me. I still have to pass the code test, but my goal is to do that by field day. Yes, Ian, I will be calling you. :)
So, that's my mushy letter of thanks, I'll be getting down to business in the following few emails...
Hugs,
Lara :)
