73 all,

For those who may not have heard, at the January meeting, the group present
accepted a suggestion that we enter the communications trailer into the George
Washington Birthday Parade Monday, February 20th. This is a great opportunity
to advertise the club to a large number of Alexandria residents with very
little cost. This parade will have highlights broadcast on the major local news
networks and should be good for a couple of pictures in QST.

The goals are three fold:

Have fun; if you've never experienced the thrill of actually being in a
parade you haven't really lived!

Advertise our club: After the past hurricane season now is the time to
highlight the public service aspect of Amateur Radio.

Increase membership: Safely in numbers comes to mind. We need to increase our
membership to continue to provide public services, maintain repeaters and
improve our abilities to offer fun projects to the group.

Don, KI4FON has agreed to pull the trailer with his white F-150 pickup. This
will allow us to put a display in the bed of the truck for all to see. We've
rented a George Washington costume, and magnets to handout to the crowd. There
is also been a club specific brochure underdevelopment. Here is a link to the
brochure, please take a moment to look it over with a critical eye. Any
suggestions for improvements would be appreciated. The brochure can be viewed at
http://www.qsl.net/AlexandriaRadioClub/handout.pdf

As with any undertaking we need people to help out. We need to work out the
specifics of our "float," people to march along the parade route and people to
come up with posters.

To this end, Don has agreed to be the point of contact for this project. We
will have a meeting at his house this Saturday Jan. 28 at 2 PM. Please come out
to support this project and have a little fun.

Please contact Don at KI4FON at arrl.net and let him know if you can make the
meeting; make the parade; or have any suggestions for us.

Thanks in advance for all your help
