Brandon,

I was wondering why I didn't hear you (from Captn Cook Park). I know 5w
+ vertical will reach Nikiski because we set up a 5w crossband repeater
for oil spill cleanup from up there back when I was working.

Operating from a warm rover might be a better choice in winter temps!

Back in the 1970's I camped out in the Sierra's in cold wx without heat
- but had an arctic-rated down sleeping bag.

Remind me to tel you about the 1986 Iditarod checkpoint that never got
above -60F for three days (inside tent was -15F with barrel stove).
Radio LCD didn't like that until run 10-minutes! Had to heat Honda gen
on top of wood stove to get oil warm enough to pull starter!

I left heat strip on overnight in the new hamshack (52 inside/15
outside). By 11am heater warmed it to 68/22).
