Brandon,
I mentioned the possibility of your crew stopping to Jane and she
suggested the Tree House. Its on the right side after passing the
Nikiski Fire Station on the left, End of strip maul that has M&M Market.
My 6m 7LFA yagis used ferrite choke balun (about foot long).
A lot of older designs used a hairpin of 70-ohm coax (My KLM yagis have
that plus my 2m-eme yagis do that).
I had to replaces some broken elements in my M2 yagis. M2 sent me
3/16-inch alum rod for that (expensive). 2m driven element assy costs
$75 (I have replaced five of the eight so far).
Long range wx forecast shows good wx next weekend so I might try renting
a man-lift.
I recovered five coils of LMR-600 cable we removed from the 6m tower.
They will run up the tower to feed 2m/432/900/1296 antennas. One extra
line appears to be ten foot.
Modified mast clamp on 1296 loop-yagi for horizontal croosboom. Frames
for both arrays painted today.
I will temp mount them near ground for testing.

> Jason, I'll have to put together some notes on the yagis I designed and built for my rover setup. They don't require any baluns, and can be built entirely from locally available materials. For example up here it's hard to find 3/16" aluminum rod, but 1/4" is pretty much always available. The driven elements are simple 3/8" copper plumbing pipe.

Designs exist which have good gain and clean patterns with nothing more than a common mode choke at the feed. The GO8KSC website has a number of easy to build designs which use a very modern approach. I hwve two on the roof right now.

While I haven't hooked it up to a wattmeter yet to confirm power output and troubleshoot, (I'm doing that today), I may need help from someone on this new issue. Also, at some point, I want to build VHF and UHF yagis, and I would like to make high quality ones so some help would be appreciated by someone at some point. I need someone to talk me through matching or baluns involved in the construction. I get the theory, but actually applying it to building one is something I would like help on. I made a tape measure yagi years ago for foxhunts but I want to build a nice one to last and to transmit from. 73, Jason A.
