[AK-VHF] Icom IC-9700

Ed and David,

Thanks for the information on the radio. I'm likely going to be getting a new rig for VHF/UHF work and have narrowed it down to the IC-9700 or Yaesu 991. Neither is as portable as I would like, but they will do for vehicle mounted work.

Seems like the advantage with the icom is obviously the GHz capability. It does not have HF or 6 M, but I have that covered with my current Yaesu 891. Anyone know how many satellites are operating on 23 cm? I don't currently do any satellite work, but if I wanted to then maybe the icom would be the way to go.

The simpler and much cheaper route is to sell the 891 and buy a 991. Net cost is about 700 - roughly half the cost of the Icom. I don't gain any GHz capability, but for contests I have one radio doing everything, which greatly simplifies logging by computer and CAT control.
