Contest Weekend
This weekend is the [ARRL June VHF Contest](http://www.arrl.org/june-vhf), from 1000 Saturday through 1900 Sunday (local time). You can operate from home, set up portable at a high point, or drive your mobile across multiple grids as a rover. Our homepage has a list of [Calling Frequencies](https://kl7vhf.org/#calling) so you know where to listen to get in on the action.
Some operators even combine the contest with other activities, like [Parks on the Air](https://kl7vhf.org/special-events/parks-on-the-air/). (The club has downloadable [Maps](https://kl7vhf.org/special-events/parks-on-the-air/pota-maps/)of park units to make it easy.) Your VHF/UHF contacts count for the contest, while all (including HF) contacts count for POTA. It’s the best of both worlds!
Rover Route
On Saturday the KL7VHF rover rides again! We will be activating four grids from Anchorage to Soldotna, making contacts all along the way. Check out this [Blog Post](https://kl7vhf.org/2021/06/05/rover-route-finalized/) for more details, and this [List](https://kl7vhf.org/special-events/contests/2021-contests/#June_VHF)of rover locations and times. The first location is also a Parks on the Air unit. If you want to log your first park then this is a great time.
At each location the rover will begin calling on 2 M FM, so listen there first. The rover will have the following available: FM and SSB on 6 meters, 2 meters, 70 cm, and 23 cm.
Portable Operating Workshop
This Sunday we will be the second of our Portable Operating Workshops. This time we will be at Parker Park in Soldotna at 1000. We will be covering everything portable radio: power, antennas, CAT control, and more. This will be a hands-on workshop with HF, VHF, and UHF stations set up so you can actually see things work. Full details are available at [This Blog Post](https://kl7vhf.org/2021/06/03/workshop-2-on-sunday/).
Some of the most popular activities right now are the “XYZ on the air” family: [POTA](https://parksontheair.com/), [SOTA](https://www.sota.org.uk/), [IOTA](https://www.iota-world.org/), and more. With planning they are accessible to anyone, but do you have to know how to set up in the field. If you have wondered about operating from camp, in the bush, or while RV’ing then this is the workshop for you.
Resources
If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the brand new [website](https://kl7vhf.org/), where you can find out all about our club activities. There is even a [Knowledge Center](https://kl7vhf.org/knowledge-center/) section for those new to weak signal operating.
6 M Band Plan
Since the six-meter band is getting more and more popular here in Alaska we thought it would be good to provide some guidance. The club has published a recommended [Band Plan](https://kl7vhf.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/6m_Band_Plan.pdf) that follows the ARRL guidance. Feel free to [Contact Us](https://kl7vhf.org/contact-us/contact/) if you have questions.
There are a lot of great things coming up. Stay in touch, dust off those radios, and don't miss out.
