It was a quiet day in Lake Wobegone.
Errr only had one checkin for the net:
KL6M - S5 on my eme array with preamp. Noise floor was S4
Mike commented that my signal was weak so figured it was
propagation. But he then told me I was stronger on first antenna I
started the net with.
So I quickly changed antenna and his signal rose to S7 on the FT-736R
(with no preamp). This antenna is two 11-element KLM yagis attache
to the top of the crossbeam of my 6m eme array (two 7-element LFA
yagis) mounted 12-foot below the 2m yagi. 2m antenna at 45-foot above ground
The feedline is shorter to it (50-foot of LMR-400+33-foot
LMR-600+about 25-foot of LMR-400) with an est loss of 1.2 dB vs 1.7
dB to 2m eme array. Also KLM yagis are tuned for best SWR at 146.5
MHz (net was on 146.52).
Mike copied me over S9 with the two KLM-11. Very surprising! The
two towers are separated 180-feet (so could the 6m tower be in a "sweet spot")?
Then we switched to 223.50 FM with Mike on his discone antenna - weak
copy but readable. Mike had put up a new 7-element 222 yagi which he
wanted to test. What a difference; his signal jumped to max signal
strength on my Bridgecom BCM-220. He saw a marked increase in my
signal, as well. GOOD DEAL Mike!
Mike figured the gain at 12 dBi for that yagi and I surmise about
3-dB more gain for my two Cushcraft 220-11 yagis. We both were
running about 25w.
Next week net will move back to 144.200
