As many of you know I had a failure of my LMR-600 N connector at
ground end of my 2m-eme feedline.
I placed an order for assorted connectors and adapters including the
LMR-600 connector from one of my favorite vendors Dave's Hobby Shop
(eta July 22).
But decided to investigate 7/16 DIN connectors. After much searching
I found a 7/16 DIN Female for my AVA7-50 Heliax (Commscope model
AL7DF-PSA) on e-bay for $50 NIB free shipping (eta July 21-28).
A bit harder to find a 7/16 DIN Male* for LMR-600. Ordered new
connector from Tessco for $48.67 but minimum order restrictions and
shipping brought total to $95.61(ugh)(eta July 26). *Backshell clamp
style vs crimped (crimp would have involved purchasing a crimper for
$100-235; besides clamp style are far more reliable in my experience.
So I will await arrival of the 7/16 DIN connectors to make repair of
my LMR-600/1-5/8 Heliax connection. This should be much superior for
QRO use on 2m-eme and increase reliability for use of this feedline
on 927.5 and 1296. I am hoping to be QRV evening of July 26 for
local VHF/UHF Net and following weekend for eme.
Pending construction at our home may require pulling all cables
between house (ham shack) and 2m-eme tower in August-September. We
are looking at rear deck replacement and installation of reinforced
stone wall which will affect the area that the cables run. I expect
that my cables to tower#2 (HF/144/222/432), tower#4 (6m) and the dish
(1296) will not be affected during this construction. Also pending
is construction of a new ham shack/shop which would involve moving
all equipment and re-running all cables (likely late Sept-Oct. if it
can be scheduled this year).
QRV tonight on 6m-80w+6elem yagi; 2m-130w+10-dB vertical (FT736R);
223.50-80w+2x 11-elem yagis.
