[AK-VHF] NET: Sat. Feb. 28 - ***146.58***

The net started out slow with KL7XJ and I for 40-minutes. I did go
down to 146.52 and make an announcement that the net frequency had
moved to 146.58.

Then as Dale and I were preparing to tests on 927.5, KL6M and KL4E
showed up, so they also QSY to listen for my signal and Dale's
signal. KL6M could tell I was modulating but not strong enough to
copy FM voice. I believe he also saw Dale's signal. Don't think
KL4E saw either of us?

Then I rotated my antenna toward Dale but we did not copy each other.

KL6M is using a omni (discone) antenna without preamp so if he could
use his yagi that might improve signals so a contact would be
possible. I'm not receiving a test signal input to the antenna
connector of my tower box but do see a signal with input to the coax
running to the shack (output of preamp). So I suspect preamp is not working.

Dale and I discussed his setup and agree adding an in-line preamp at
the antenna would help him. Also running lower loss coax on transmit
would help.

WL7AU joined the net at 10am briefly. I had moved my 2m radio to my
vertical for the 927.5 test so did not copy Chip.

Small steps for 927.5 but look promising once all of us get stuff
upgraded/fixed. I suspect only hillside station in Anch. will be
able to work us on the Peninsula on 432/927.5/1296.

Next week the net returns to 144.200 USB.

PS: I added words to the AK-VHF website dealing with upcoming Board
and Officers Elections. A line to the Constitution/ByLaws is
listed. May the BOD are elected for two year terms.
