[AK-VHF] Nice 6 meter opening into Japan today !

Congratulations, John. Yes, now is the time of year when sporadic-E propagation picks up and good 50 MHz DX is possible to be had.

None of us in Washington or British Columbia have yet worked Japan this season. There is an afternoon opening from Japan that guys farther east enjoy, like in W0 and W5. But the signals from Japan have been going right over our heads.

A couple of days ago, a few of us down here (BC and Washington) managed to work into Finland (a country at a very high latitude) under very weak signal conditions. So, that's a sign that stations in Alaska could work some very long DX in the same fashion.

Keep up the good work!

As it turns out I have been monitoring 50.125 daily since the VHF
Contest and chose this afternoon to be outside taking down my
6-element 6m yagi (broked last winter).  Of course I missed the opening!
