Getting my announcement out early this week:
The AK-VHF Net will meet 14 Dec. at 9am on 146.52 FM.
I will be running about 120w to four 10-element yagis.
I have a new 6m antenna just installed earlier today so maybe we will
switch over to 50.125 USB for a few minutes during the net.
On Tuesday my antennas all experienced high SWR which apparently was
due to icing from freezing rain. Both the
144 and 222 antennas were affected (they are
on different towers with separate feedline). Even reception on 2m
was affected. Never have seen this before. Wednesday we had high
winds and problem disappeared. So did the ice.
Special Note: The Geminid's Meteor Shower is Saturday with peak
starting at 5am until 1am Sunday.
6m is the best band for ms and contacts can be made using SSB or
digital modes. If there is interest we can discuss this during the
net. Meteor Scatter is best from about 600 to 1200 miles with
maximum range of 1380 miles (2000km). This encompasses a lot of
Alaska and some of the Yukon reaching down to the BC/WA border for
stations in Anchorage.
