To the Alaska VHF-Up Group at large:
TJ Sheffield and I have been discussing ways to build a VHF effort to
capture some points on Field Day this year. We're still coordinating
the equipment, but I should be operating one of the 50 watt mobiles
from the CCV at Kincaid Park using a yagi on a 50 ft mast. If nothing
else, I can try to get out on 6m and 1.25m with my HT.
I am sending this out to the group to ask for skeds or random calls
during Field Day in an attempt to build points for VHF participation.
Another idea, in addition to that above, is to bring in some Cub
Scouts (5-7 of them) at some time during the day, and let them do
additional QSO's. Apparently, five kids completing a full QSO each is
worth some bonus points that KL7AA has never earned. We will need
operators on the other end. This is something that can be set up ahead
of time.
Kincaid Park is low ground, but I'm hoping that I can work the
Anchorage Bowl as well as points north and south. We haven't yet
determined what frequencies to use, but it will likely be the same
ones we use in our regular nets, aside from 146.52, of course.
Any other ideas anyone may have to boost VHF participation will be
greatly appreciated.
