[AK-VHF] KL3JI/R Rover Operations During June VHF QSO Party

The June VHF Contest is often the best participated of the three ARRL
Contests each year. It has the best promise of major 6m DX
propagation. If the 6m band opens to Alaska from the lower-48 or
elsewhere it takes precedence over working other frequencies while
the conditions exist. This can impact rovers so just wanted to make
this clear. Hopefully, rovers can extend their operation to
compensate. If they are operating 6m CW/SSB they will likely
enjoying the open band themselves.
Regards operating 52.525 FM the only reason the AK-VHF suggests using
50.30 is for those who are using NB antennas that do not extend up to
52 MHz. Most 6m activity will be CW/SSB which uses horizontal
polarized antennas (almost universally). FM on VHF+ bands are
typically vertical polarization (and so is CW/SSB on 2m and up in Alaska).
I hope to see a good turn-out to reward the efforts of rovers like
the KL3JI group. They provide the opportunity to work grids not
commonly active and if you work five Alaska grids you become
qualified for the Sourdough Award of the Alaska VHF-Up Group see:

Good luck in the contest!
