NL7OW and KL7UW were the only check-in's today. Net participation
has dropped significantly since moving the net to Sunday
afternoon. Not too much I can do as long as I work the other six
days on a varied schedule.
We can consider a later time such as 5:30 or 6:00pm. I know many
inform me of the Sniper Net at 6pm but that does not last full
hour. Those that check into Snipers are welcome to join the net
afterward. I am unwilling to take evening time away from my family on Sunday.
In other news I had my two 6m yagis removed from the tower on
Wednesday (Aug. 15) by Nolan Bros. Tower Service. Brian drove their
5-ton boom truck up to pull the stacked array off the tower. It had
to be removed as the director on the upper yagi had lost its bolt and
was nearly slid out of the boom. Lower yagi never tuned so was not in service.
I will repair the upper yagi and side-mount it to the tower at
45-feet pointed to Anchorage for the fall/winter. Next summer I hope
to put up a 30-foot tower with rotator for my 6-element 6m
yagi. When that is accomplished the 3-element yagi will be
re-pointed to 120-deg. azimuth toward the West Coast to watch for openings.
Along with re-installing the 6m yagi I hope to add a 11-element KLM
2m yagi fixed pointed to Anchorage for FM frequencies. I am also
finishing the install of a dual LO synth board for my alternate 2m
transverter which will restore operation on 2m repeaters (using my
new KX3 as 28-MHz IF). The transverter outputs 4w to drive a 35w
linear which normally will use the ARX-270 dual-band base vertical.
Next week the net will be on 146.52 MHz FM simplex.
