Shannon
and All,
This is
correct, and I apologize for not being careful about the dates. They are
correctly noted in QST and on the ARRL contest schedule, but the contest rules
are for last year. I am copying Sean, KX9X, at the ARRL contest desk. I will
also get immediately to correcting the item on the AVG Contests page.
Thanks
for the heads-up!

Paul,

Shannon,
You are correct. ARRL has not updated the page for the June Contest
webpage to 2012 so last year's date is displayed. Local time is 10:00am
Saturday till 6:59pm Sunday. Most activity will be the first couple hours
on Saturday unless we have rovers operating extended times in other locations.
I guess you read my posting about operations with KL7FZ (Chugach SP parking
lot) and KL7UW (Diamond Ridge above Homer). W have not decided which day
we will do that. It takes me 2-hours to drive to Diamond Ridge and more
time to set up the mw equipment. 6m-33cm will be with mobile gear but
antennas will have to be mounted at Diamond Ridge and taken down for driving.
GL hiking to Flat Top!
Hope is shadowed by mountains into NE Anchorage, Eagle River and Palmer.
Best location is on the flats north of the Sea View Cafe near the arm, or up
Palmer Creek Road to the first switch back (3mi from Resurrection Road Jct)
(but road may not be open, yet-ask at the Discovery Cafe in Hope). I used
to live in Hope so know it very well. Most likely no one was listening
when you tried. Resurrection Trail is too covered by forest to be much
good until you hike in 7-10mi. Table Mountain is a 4-5mi bushwhack up to
about 1500 feet but clear view of Anchorage (but bear country - better to do in
July).
Trapper Creek is not likely with 5w unless you climb a mountain. KL7HJ
worked me from Talkeetna with 50w and yagi as rover on 2m-SSB.
Best try Kincaid Park (BP41) as we can hit that from Kenai (maybe) and provides
another grid. To hit me on Diamond Ridge the Anch. hillside is best.
On Diamond Ridge I will use:
6m: dipole and 125w SSB/FM
2m: 7-elem yagi and 150w SSB/FM
432: 6-element Arrow yagi and 25w SSB
927.5: 18-element loop-yagi and 12w FM
10-GHz: 18-inch dish and 2.5w CW/SSB

Hey you guys,
The June 11th date was for last year's date for the June QSO Party.
This year's date is June 9-10, and, if my subtraction of 8 hrs from
GMT is correct, it runs from 10am Sat to 6:59pm Sunday our time.
I hope the snow will be off the summit of Flat Top by then; my plan is
to hike up there and start the contest up there, for at least the 1st
half of the day or until the action stops.
From there, I'm looking for ideas on places to operate from in nearby
grids.
I know I can go out to Woronzof Pt. (BP41) or
I tried to operate from Hope (BP50) the weekend prior to Jan's
Sweepstake and got nothing, but I'm not sure if that was a case of no
one listening or what. There's a trailhead there, that is
accessible
in the summer; I may be able to hike up to a peak or something.
If I can reach the distance, I might try from our cabin in Trapper
Creek (BP42). I can hit the Susitna repeater full quieting, which is
53 miles away, but I don't know if I can reach all the way into
Anchorage; that's a long haul on 5 watts, and I can't reach across
Anchorage from the low ground on the bluff. I've tried with 6m from
thre and got nothing but a dead battery, but again, don't know if it
was just no one listening or what. Does anyone have any opinions on
that? (I need to set up a sekd with someone in town from up there one
weekend is what I need to do.)
Do you guys know of any other high areas in nearby grids that I can
access, either by car and/or on foot? Perhaps some areas up and down
the Seward/Parks/Glenn Hwys in areas where there are hams living? I'd
really like to load up on Mountain Dews and hit this one hard in hopes
of getting a lot done toward the Pathfinder Award.

Hello,
Everyone!
Now that Spring has sprung, time to get ready for the June VHF
Contest. Last year, we made the club competition list, which means
we had at least three members who submitted their entries and
contributed their scores towards the club competition. We need to do
that again this year and have more participants. I ask all members
in Alaska to plan for the June contest so that when the weekend of
the 11th of June arrives, you'll be free to operate. And, if you're
adventuresome, think about operating as a Rover and active a couple
or more grids squares.
As always, I'm here to respond to any questions you have regarding
contests.
I hope to hear you on the air.
