The Alaska VHF-Up Net will meet tomorrow at 9am (AKDST) on 146.52 FM
simplex. The Net meets on FM once per month to let those with
interest in weak-signal VHF and above access if they don't own SSB/CW
equipment.
My four-yagi eme array (19 dBd) is lowered for maintenance so I will
not have as strong a signal as normally I do. However, I did some
trouble-shooting today and discovered that the high SWR on my
high-gain omni collinear whip was with a coax section which I have
replaced. The 17-foot high collinear, base mounted 20-feet above
ground, has 9-dBd gain on 2m and I have a 1-dB NF preamp at the radio
which helps reception quite a bit (about 3-4 s-units over the radio by itself).
I will start out with 50w and see how well I am heard. I can add the
amplifier but it only boosts power to about 75w so not a big change
in power. I have to use my antenna tuner with the amp on 146.52 to
get good input SWR into the amp (because one transistor has failed
and that has the match messed up).
I also checked the antenna on UHF and it shows almost perfect match
432-450 MHz. 12 dBd gain on UHF (that is as much as my 11-element
UHF yagi which isn't connecting thru the TR relay - dc voltage issue, I think).
