Hello Everybody,
The biggest, most popular contest of the year is just a couple of days away. If you haven't yet, read about it on the AVG Contests page here: http://www.qsl.net/ak-vhf/Contests/ .
If you think you might be interested in working some DX on 50 MHz, the June contest is the place to start looking. There will be hundreds of guys in the lower fourty-eight and Canada looking to work their first Alaskan station, not to mention get points and a multiplier from you. This time of year, just prior to the summer solstice, is prime time for sporadic-E propagation. Six meters has opened to Alaska from points south several times this year already.
A reminder - When you submit your contest entry, remember to include the name of your club so that your score will count in the club competition. Spell it out: Alaska VHF-Up Group. Remember, you must be in Alaska while operating the contest in order for your score to count for the club competition.
Talk it up. Tell your HF friends to get on and make some contacts on the VHF bands. Most contemporary rigs now work on 50 MHz, and some work all the way up to 1296 MHz! Points from non-competing stations count just as much and you may ignite somebody's interest in VHF.
Hope to work you all on 50 MHz during the contest. I will be looking north!
73,
Paul, K7CW
AVG Contest Guy
