The KP5/NP3VI DXpedition to Desecheo is a BIG deal and is an opportunity to open up other entities on the DXCC list that are controlled by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and possibly areas controlled by other governments.
Desecheo Island has been declared a bird and wildlife sanctuary and as such there are a ton, actually a couple of tons, of restrictions. First, human activity on the island is all but prohibited. You can’t run a generator, only solar power, and that leaves out the use of a power amplifier. Also, antennas must be of minimal impact. The co-primary focus of the DXpedition, other than to provide as many all-time new ones (ALL TIME, not on just a band), is to convince the FWS that such operations can be conducted and not disrupt the island’s sanctuary status. If the group is successful, then it could open similar access to other areas.
Some folks just like to complain, it’s been in our human nature forever, but we need to focus on this effort at large and what it could do for DX entity activation in the coming years because this is simply a take it or leave it deal. We either try to work within the FWS rules and requirements as this group is doing, or the entity will NEVER be activated! It is as simple as that.
Remember, DX’ing is not for weenies, it’s a BIG DOG game so don’t pee with the puppies, whiners, and complainers. We ADXA folks have set and maintained a high standard in DX’ing for 60 years.
Now, with all due credit to Coach Joe Pitts, you know what to do!!!!!!
