I’m giving it a shot. It definitely gave me a bit of that “early contest” nervousness.

I’m a slow learner, so I hit a couple of snags.  First, I didn’t set up a new contest and it wouldn’t show me the “start Morserunner” button.  Found out you have to be in CQ WW or WPX.

Next, when I’d hit F1 to respond to a caller, it would say 599 4 without sending the other guy’s call. I thought I’d turn on ESM (Enter Sends Message) and that did work. I guess it’s a requirement.

Dennis - I’m glad to hear you made it to an ARVARF meeting.  That’s a step in the right direction.

I've got to check this out!  I wondered if there was a way to practice.

The really neat thing about it is, if you’re bored and no DX on the bands, fire it and instant pile up action !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had played with the standalone version of Morserunner several years ago and this prompted me to try it again.   I got it going in N1MM and the first run was a disaster, with function keys not  set up, and other issues.  Then I did a second 5 minute session of CQ WW and still didn’t have things fully set up but got 18 Q’s in 5 minutes.  I think that works out to a little over 200/hr, which is pretty weak for this kind of thing.  It seemed too easy, so I need to revisit the QRM, QRN, LID settings, etc.

It will be fun to see if I can push up to 300 per hour.  Going to ARVARF meeting now - first one in several months - and will try it again.

Yep, 599+++ 😊 Good speed also. I had my speed set for 38 WPM and you were cruisin’

If you use N1MM for contest logging it is, in my opinion, the best practice method as it provides for both.

If you open N1MM and go to “Config” then “Configure Ports, Mode Control, Winkey, etc..” select “Other” at the top and you’ll see a check box for “MorseRunner Mode” check that, then N1MM will download MorseRunner. Its self-intuitive from there.

Ha!  I'll bet I was 599+!

I often see familiar callsigns when using RUFZ, but not usually people I actually know.

I guess I should try the N1MM+ simulator, because whenever I get into a contest I seem to spend the first hour retraining myself on its use.

Nick,

Tnx for the “virtual” QSO with ZF5T this morning! 😊

Practice makes perfect……well, maybe not for me but it improves my capability to some level. In preparation for the upcoming CQWW CW contest at ZF5T I’ve been practicing with Morse Runner embedded in N1MM. During this morning’s “session” I was running a pileup and in popped “WA5BDU”.

So, Nick, you’re “in the log” so to speak! Its always interesting to see what callsigns are generated from the database.
