I “love it” when I get a card in the mail (no envelope, just the card) and the guy’s address is not on the card.  It has happened 3-4 times in the last few years.  So, usually, I stop doing what I’m doing with a big stack of cards, get an envelope and go to QRZ to get his address and fill it out, thinking it is one in a hundred who does that and the extra time won’t hurt me too much.

I’ll tell you a little secret.  I have never checked to see whether someone was in the log with a couple of exceptions.  I figure if someone really wants to cheat, I won’t get in their way.

The exceptions are that about 35 years ago I went to 8Q7 and had a great time with a roll of wire, a coconut tree by the water and an Icom 765/SB200.  Actually the best time I’ve ever had working the radio.  Band opened to USA on 80 and I made about 25 contacts.  I’ll bet I got 40 cards.  Some of them I knew I had not worked and I told the ones who were not in the log.  Another exception was I got a card (not sure but think an HL) who was claiming to have worked ZF9CW long path on 160M…I wish!

Now don’t get any ideas about crazy stuff like FT8 on 1296 MHz EME guys!  I’ll spot that right away.

I hate to add up what I’ve spent to get DXCC on all HF and HR! That’s not been near 100% return rate either.  XYL would have probably shut me down. Good thing it’s been spread out over 30 years LOL.

I’ve been trying to work those “BIG” money guys like VK9DX on every band I can, then pay $$. It all costs the same.

Pre-senior rant…. Over and out.

Most of you probably already know this, but it takes $4.00 to get a QSL OR confirmation on LOTW from 3D2AG  A N D five bucks to get the same from VK9DX.  I snared both of them yesterday on 6 meters, FT8. Damn!

Well, I’ll do it because I would really like to get DXCC on the “magic band”, but it galls me, nonetheless .

Fellow members, I think I have been a ham the longest among ADXA members - since 02/04/1955 and I used to get QSL cards from folks; “U R my first Arkansas, PSE QSL and I did (I’m sure we ALL have those requests, even today).  I recall one early contact’s card that had on it, “the final courtesy of a QSO is a QSL”.  Isn’t that neat?!  Hey, It’s The Way It Ought To Be 😊.  I sure used and still use SASE for QSL’s I want but I remember when even THAT was not required – in the early days, contacts would send just the card…no envelope…..and postage was ONLY 3 CENTS!  (Yes, I am THAT OLD).

Just a senior citizen’s rant….
