I second that automatic antenna switch & well protected amp are important things to have. I recently started using hamplus switch, which after some initial hiccups, is now working great. My kpa1500 fortunately survived the issues I had initially (the manual for k4 is completely messed up).

BTW 160m is often like 6m in a sense that the conditions may not be the same both ways. Often large differences in signal reports. For example, in the evenings my signal tends to be reasonable in EU but I have trouble hearing. In the morning the situation seems to be reversed (to asia and pacific).
