I got this message yesterday morning:

VI Hams,

It is with deep sadness I must pass along the news that John Ellis, NP2B, became a silent key today.  John lived in STX for 23-years before relocating to Florida some 20 years ago.  He served several terms as my predecessor in the position of ARRL Section Manager for the USVI.  He signed the original MOU with VITEMA in the mid-1980s.  He is survived by his wife Jeanette, KB4XO (ex-NP2C).  Please keep Jeanette and her family in your prayers during these difficult times.

73,

Fred, NP2X / K9VV

I had the opportunity to operate from his station in Saint Croix twice, and I can truly  say that John made sure you felt like you were at a 5 star hotel from the moment of him picking you up at the airport all the way to staying at his place on a perfect location uphill on the island! trust me he would get really mad if you paid for anything, including a case of Cervezas (beer --- and there is an inside joke with that).. HIm and Jeanette truly took care of us during the contests! including ensuring we were well fed and yes Cervezas too!

.. Old Friend,

Steve
