When I said time and money, I didn't mean you had to be wealthy to put together a good station. But, it does take some money. Here is my story on a very modest station. When I moved to Memphis, had no tower, etc. Heard Island came on the air. I needed it for a new one. I put up a 30 meter dipole about 15' off the ground. I almost broke my hand sending CW trying to work Heard. The last day they were on, my wife wanted me to go for a walk. I said, "let me give it one more try." On about the 5th call, this time, they came back. This was with a TS-850, 100 watts. It can be done.
To this day, since that Q in 1997, that is ONLY Q I have with
Heard Island. I'd rather be lucky than good.
